Meet the Delivery Community

Richard
Avid Photographer
What do you like to do outside of work?
I go to rooftops, take photos, just explore my city with my camera. That's what I love.

What's the most challenging part of food delivery?
It's trial and error. Let's say you buy a sweater you thought was waterproof. Yeah, it was for the first hour. But you're out here for eight hours.

Jeury
Father of two
Do you like delivering food?
I love this job, man. Just got to be ready for the cold and traffic. But besides that, it's amazing. I'm my own boss.

What's your most memorable delivery story?
So it's pouring outside. I give this guy the order and he brings out an envelope and he gives me $500, man. I cried — literally.

Tamera
New to New York
If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?
I would like to be a self-help coach. I would like to help people with anything pertaining to just living a happy, successful, peaceful life.

What are New Yorkers like when you're dropping off food?
Very talkative. New Yorkers love to talk. So, I mean, it's fun. I love to listen.

Anthony
Brooklyn Native
What is your favorite part about delivering food?
It feels a lot like freedom, just being able to ride all over the city.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to play pool and hang out with my kids, bring them to the Poconos, travel, go camping with them.

Pascualina
Her Own Boss
How does the city view you while you work?
This city is very polite and friendly. They thank me a lot, they appreciate me — and see me as being a warrior who can do this.

What is the most challenging part of delivering food?
It is difficult now to work in the cold, but you don’t have space to go in the restaurants, they’re full.

Ivan
Entreprenuer
What's the hardest part of the job?
The winter, it's so cold. But in general, it's cool. I have my time, my schedule. I have time for other projects. It's good.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I go to the gym. I learn English. And I like reading about financials, economics.

Jeffery
Aspiring Engineer
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
My favorite activity outside of work is playing the keyboard and singing.

Up to how many hours do you work a week?
Some weeks I work 60 to 70 hours.

Joan
Concierge
You bike all around the city?
Yeah, mostly. I'm between 60th Street all the way to Wall Street. Honestly, wherever the delivery is good, that's where I go.

Could you describe delivering on the colder days?
I got gloves and boots because, man, you do feel it. You think winter's tough but while you’re riding a bike, it's way colder.

Lucas
Reggaeton Fan
What did you do before food delivery?
I worked in construction and at a restaurant. And I left both jobs to be independent. It’s not easy working 11, 12 hours on the street, but I feel better being my own boss.

Do you have time to relax?
Yeah. During slow periods, I take breaks and eat. But now in the winter, it’s really hard in the cold.
