Restaurant Brings Approximately 80 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Exploring Unique Bike Corral Solution for Delivery Workers
NEW YORK (Nov. 7, 2024) – A second Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Brooklyn community on Thursday, November 14. Brandon Hurst, current local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Flatbush & Atlantic Ave., will also serve as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Clinton Hill.
With more than 65,000 delivery workers in New York City, Chick-fil-A® recognizes the important role delivery workers hold in the community. The Clinton Hill restaurant is exploring unique customizations to support the growing demand for mobile orders and delivery across Brooklyn and show care for the delivery driver community. Chick-fil-A is partnering with the New York City Department of Transportation on a first-of-its-kind custom bike corral dedicated for delivery workers to easily park their bikes and mopeds out of the way of pedestrians and cars. The bike corral would potentially be located on Clinton Ave., directly outside of a dedicated pick-up window for delivery orders, offering a separate and streamlined flow at the restaurant.
The proposed customizations at Chick-fil-A Clinton Hill would serve as a continuation of the company’s care for delivery workers, building on the Brake Room initiative from 2023, which provided a dedicated, free space for delivery workers to take a break and refuel.
Chick-fil-A Clinton Hill will be open for dine-in, carry-out and delivery from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, and 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Brooklyn, Hurst is responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 170 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Brooklyn community’s needs.
Hurst was first introduced to Chick-fil-A as a student at Alabama State University. He fell in love with the company’s delicious food and felt inspired by the service model that centered on its Guests and local communities. Hurst worked at a local Chick-fil-A restaurant as a Team Member while he put himself through college – all while also serving as drum major in the band and in leadership roles in his fraternity. After graduating magna cum laude with a degree in accounting, Hurst was excited for the opportunity to help establish Chick-fil-A in an emerging market, so he accepted a role as Director of Operations for a new restaurant in Chicago, Illinois.
Hurst soon set his sights on becoming a local Owner-Operator of his own restaurant, and in 2012, he joined the Chick-fil-A® Leadership Development Program, where he partnered with local Owner-Operators across the country to help successfully open new Chick-fil-A restaurants. After three years of learning from dedicated leaders across the system, Hurst was selected as the local Owner-Operator of the first Chick-fil-A in downtown Baltimore, Maryland at just 26 years old. After three years operating that restaurant in a bustling, urban community, he decided to relocate to Brooklyn to open the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in the borough. In 2019, Hurst was thrilled at the prospect of helping steward the brand in New York City, and today, he looks forward to deepening his relationships with the community at Chick-fil-A Clinton Hill.
“I’m on a mission to serve others, not just with high-quality food at my restaurants, but also by making a genuine impact in the Brooklyn community,” said Hurst. “I’m also thrilled to be exploring a potential new solution for delivery workers here in Brooklyn. I’m a Brooklyn resident too, so I’m no stranger to the demands and challenges they face. I am hopeful we’ll be able to unveil a premier bike corral to help ensure deliveries are smooth, efficient and safe at Chick-fil-A Clinton Hill.”
Caring for the Brooklyn Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education and specific community needs.
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to partners in the Brooklyn area to aid in the fight against hunger.
Hurst’s restaurant will participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 30 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,200 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Chick-fil-A Clinton Hill is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Brooklyn area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
