Why is my Chick-fil-A restaurant closed for remodeling?
Restaurants are prioritized for renovation based on capacity and age. Capacity upgrades in restaurants may include expanding kitchens and adding additional lanes in the drive-thru. Age upgrades may include updates to facilities like counters, awnings and furniture.
Fun fact: The typical lifespan of a freestanding Chick-fil-A® restaurant is 30 years, and within that timeframe, each restaurant usually receives at least one full-scale renovation, requiring an overhaul inside and out.
For example, to address capacity issues, a restaurant may undergo remodeling to transform its kitchen with an enhanced design, allowing half the kitchen staff to respond to drive-thru orders, and the other half to serve in-restaurant customers. If a restaurant is undergoing construction to add a second drive-thru lane, canopies, heaters, misters and lights may be added so Team Members can work outside comfortably. During the hiatus, many Team Members may receive temporary positions at other Chick-fil-A locations, while others may receive holdover money from the restaurant Operator.
