Restaurant Brings Approximately 130 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year
METAIRIE, La. (May 6, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Metairie community on Thursday, May 9. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Ralph Bartels as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Airline Hwy & Severn Ave.
Located at 3501 Airline Drive, Chick-fil-A Airline Hwy & Severn Ave. will be open for dine-in, drive-thru, carry-out and delivery from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The new restaurant will also feature Mobile Thru, a fully dedicated lane in the drive-thru where guests can pick up orders placed ahead of time on the Chick-fil-A App.
The Airline Hwy & Severn Ave. restaurant joins 25 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider New Orleans market.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Metairie, Bartels will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 130 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Metairie community’s needs.
Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Fla., Bartels is no stranger to the southeast. As a child, Bartels and his family spent many Saturday nights at Chick-fil-A while visiting his local mall. To this day, he remembers the moment he fell in love with the classic waffle potato fries! Bartels began his Chick-fil-A journey as a college student working as a Team Member in Orlando, Fla. and has continued to live out Chick-fil-A’s values of care, community and collaboration for two decades.
As a Team Member, Bartels experienced first-hand the positive impact Chick-fil-A makes on the local communities they serve. With a heart for service, he saw an opportunity to immerse himself even more and pursue a purpose-driven career with Chick-fil-A. After participating in Chick-fil-A's Leadership Development Program, Bartels was thrilled to become the local Owner-Operator of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Biloxi, Miss., where he served from 2011 to 2024. Now, he and his family have relocated to Metairie and are excited to serve a new community at Chick-fil-A Airline Hwy & Severn Ave.
“I joined Chick-fil-A as a 20-year-old college student, working in the kitchen breading chicken, and quickly fell in love with the company’s purpose and vision to be the most caring company there is. I took a leap and asked the local Owner-Operator at that restaurant if I could shadow him, and that was the best chance I ever took on myself,” said Bartels. “I walked in the doors for my first day as a Team Member in 2004 and now, 20 years later, I have the honor and privilege to not only be a positive light in the community, but to also guide a new class of Team Members. I’m looking forward to showing them the ropes the same way my mentor in Orlando showed me – supporting them in their professional development, shaping them as leaders and giving them ownership to grow.”
Caring for the Metairie Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, a Feeding America partner food bank, in honor of the new restaurant. Since 2020, Chick-fil-A has donated $225,000 to Feeding America partners in the New Orleans market.
Bartels’s restaurant is participating in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 25 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada. Chick-fil-A has donated 292,148 meals throughout the New Orleans market.
In addition, Chick-fil-A Airline Hwy & Severn Ave. is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Metairie area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
