Restaurant Brings Approximately 115 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year

MARION, Ill. (Sept. 9, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Marion community on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected David Wachter as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Marion.

Located at 2820 Joseph Cannon Way, Chick-fil-A Marion will be open for dine-in, drive-thru, carry-out, catering pick-up, and Mobile Thru, a fully dedicated lane in the drive-thru where Guests can pick up orders placed ahead of time on the Chick-fil-A App®. The restaurant’s dining room will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with the drive-thru open until 10 p.m.

The Chick-fil-A Marion restaurant joins seven other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider Cape Girardeau, Kentucky, Harrisburg, Illinois and Paducah, Kentucky, market.

Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.

In Marion, Wachter will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 115 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Marion community’s needs.

Wachter's first memories of Chick-fil-A are from high school when he and his friends would eat at their local restaurant before sporting events, a tradition they continued into their college years. After graduation, Wachter’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start a family-owned coffee company, and later pursue a sales career.

With a heart for service and passion for caring for others in a meaningful way, Wachter was open to a new career opportunity. A local Chick-fil-A restaurant in Hickory, North Carolina was hosting open interviews, where he interviewed for a Team Member position and was hired.

Over the next four years, Wachter learned the ins and outs of the restaurant business, and later joined the Chick-fil-A® Leadership Development Program, traveling across the country to help open new restaurants. Through his travels, Wachter fell in love with the Midwest and is thrilled to now call Southern Illinois home.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to open the first Chick-fil-A in Marion," said Wachter. "Chick-fil-A is where I have experienced so many personal and professional milestones – it’s where I met my wife, Kendall, created countless memories with friends and family, and grew from a Team Member to a local Owner-Operator. I look forward to this restaurant serving as a welcoming environment where the community can enjoy our delicious food and experience remarkable moments of care.”

Caring for the Marion Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to partners in the area to aid in the fight against hunger.

In addition, Chick-fil-A Marion is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Marion area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.

Team Member Investment
Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators strive to hire, develop and retain top talent, helping future leaders optimize their skills and providing pathways for personal and professional development in a welcoming, purpose-driven environment. A career at Chick-fil-A offers a wide range of benefits, including hands-on training and mentoring, competitive pay and benefits, the chance to apply for scholarships to support continued education, and the flexibility to thrive in and outside of work. Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are committed to preparing their team for the future, wherever it may lead. To learn more about careers at Chick-fil-A, click here
