Restaurant Brings Approximately 100 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year
MASON CITY, Iowa (Sept. 26, 2024) – The first Chick-fil-A® restaurant in Mason City will begin serving the community on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Kevin Melott as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Mason City.
Located at 3128 4th St. SW, Chick-fil-A Mason City will be open for dine-in, drive-thru and carry-out from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Mason City, Melott will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 100 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Mason City’s community’s needs.
Prior to being selected as the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Mason City, Melott served in the U.S. Navy as an Environmental Health Technician. After the military, Melott transitioned into a career in franchising and hospitality, spending more than 10 years opening ice cream shops across the country. While living in Minneapolis, Melott was introduced to Reid Dorsett, the local Owner-Operator of a Chick-fil-A restaurant. What started as a simple introduction ultimately led to the next chapter of Melott’s career.
“Reid bet on my potential, first to support the restaurant’s growth and hiring efforts, and over time, to lead as the Director of Special Operations,” Melott shared. “I fell in love with the many moments of care that I experienced in the restaurant and look forward to providing growth opportunities for our Team Members.”
These interactions left a lasting impression on Melott, ultimately leading him to his dream role with Chick-fil-A when he was selected as a local Owner-Operator. Melott is proud to bring the first
Chick-fil-A to Mason City and looks forward to the restaurant caring for its Team Members, Guests and the Mason City community.
“With opening the first Chick-fil-A in Mason City, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve and care for Guests whether it’s their very first-time dining with us or if they’re ordering their favorite items,” Melott said. “My family and I are so proud to now call Mason City home, and I look forward to creating an environment of care throughout the restaurant and in our community with great food, exceptional service and a generous heart.”
Caring for the Mason City Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to Food Bank of Iowa to aid in the fight against hunger.
Melott’s restaurant is planning to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 30 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,200 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Chick-fil-A Mason City is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Mason City area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
