Restaurant Brings Approximately 85 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Meals for a Year
SUMTER, S.C. (May 8, 2023)– A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Sumter community on Thursday, May 11. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Scott Richardson as the independent franchised Owner/Operator of Chick-fil-A McCrays Mill.
Located at 375 Pinewood Road, Chick-fil-A McCrays Mill is a drive-thru only restaurant that will be open for drive-thru or carry-out from a walk-up window from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Guests of Chick-fil-A McCrays Mill can place an order for pickup or delivery on the Chick-fil-A® App or online. When joining the Chick-fil-A One® tiered membership program, Chick-fil-A One members receive points on every qualifying purchase, which can be used to redeem available rewards. The McCrays Mill restaurant joins 21 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider Columbia market.

As full-time, hands-on leaders in their restaurants and communities, Chick-fil-A Owner/Operators proudly reside in the communities in which they serve.
At Chick-fil-A McCrays Mill, Richardson will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 85 full-and part-time Team Members, serving guests and cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses.
Richardson’s journey with Chick-fil-A began as a teenager. He credits a visit to McAllister Square Mall in Greenville, S.C. with his mother, where he tried the Chick-fil-A® Original Chicken Sandwich for the first time, sparking his interest in the company. Richardson joined that same Chick-fil-A location as a Team Member, and he has since dedicated his entire career to Chick-fil-A. The University of South Carolina graduate quickly rose to become an Operator, and throughout his 27-year career with the restaurant company, he has served at restaurants across Columbia and the surrounding area. In addition to Chick-fil-A McCrays Mill, Richardson will continue to operate Chick-fil-A Sumter and expand his reach in the community.
“I’ve been a part of the Sumter community for nearly 20 years. This is a place that I’m proud to call home, so it’s especially important to me that I can continue to make an impact, not just with job opportunities, but also with consistent care for our guests,” said Richardson. “Just as we've done at Chick-fil-A Sumter since 2002, our McCrays Mill restaurant will continue to find ways to give back and partner with local organizations to make a difference.”
Caring for the Sumter Community
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. will donate $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to partners in the greater Columbia area to aid in the fight against hunger.
In addition, Chick-fil-A McCrays Mill is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Sumter area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A meals for a year.
Richardson’s restaurant will plan to participate in Chick-fil-A Shared Table®, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 18 million meals have been served nationwide from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations.
