Restaurant Brings Approximately 130 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (June 10, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Miami Shores community on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Jon Harmeling as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Miami Shores.
Located at 9190 Biscayne Blvd., Chick-fil-A Miami Shores will be open for dine-in, curbside, carry-out and delivery from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The Miami Shores restaurant joins more than 30 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider South Florida area.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Miami Shores, Harmeling will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 130 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet Miami Shores community’s needs.
Born and raised in South Florida, Harmeling is excited to step into his second career in a community he’s always called home. After high school graduation, he began his Army career by attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. He then went on to serve in a dozen roles across the United States, Germany and Afghanistan. Harmeling was introduced to the Brand in 2018 when a military colleague, who also worked for Chick-fil-A, gave him a tour of the Chick-fil-A Support Center in Atlanta. Captivated by the history and principle of the Brand to be a caring company for all, he immediately wanted to get more involved.
Even while he was still an active-duty soldier stationed back at West Point, Harmeling volunteered part-time at Chick-fil-A restaurants in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. He retired from the Army in 2020 and returned to South Florida, where he began working full-time as a Back of House Director at Chick-fil-A Coconut Creek and Chick-fil-A Hillsborough & Powerline. With his sights set one day opening his own Chick-fil-A restaurant, he learned the ins and outs of the business working diligently under tenured local Owner-Operators.
Harmeling’s wife Kari and his son will also serve on the team at Chick-fil-A Miami Shores. As a South Florida native, Harmeling is especially looking forward to the opportunity to make an impact in a community that’s near to his heart.
"Having grown up in South Florida, opening this restaurant is a full-circle moment for my family and me," said Harmeling. "I'm looking forward to creating a welcoming space for the Miami Shores community, where we will develop young talent, partner with local leaders and support causes that are important to our Guests."
Caring for the Miami Shores Community
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of Feeding South Florida, a Feeding America partner food bank, in honor of the new restaurant.
Harmeling’s restaurant will participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 25 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Chick-fil-A Miami Shores is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Miami area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
