Drive-Thru Focused Restaurant Brings Approximately 80 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year
SHAWNEE, Kan. (Oct. 4, 2024) – The first Chick-fil-A® restaurant in Shawnee will begin serving the community on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Drew Severns as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Shawnee Mission, marking his second restaurant in the community.
Located at 11500 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Chick-fil-A Shawnee Mission will be open for drive-thru and Mobile Thru, a fully dedicated lane in the drive-thru where Guests can pick up orders placed ahead of time on the Chick-fil-A App®, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Designed for speed and efficiency, this drive-thru focused location offers added convenience to serve Guests through its drive-thru and a walk-up window for pick-up. While this location will not offer dine-in services, the restaurant features a patio with seating for 24 Guests.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Shawnee, Severns will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 80 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Shawnee community’s needs.
Severns is a proud Kansas City native who began his journey with Chick-fil-A as a Team Member at one of the city’s first stand-alone locations. His experience as a Team Member left a lasting impression—one that shaped his leadership style and dedication to serving the community today.
“I decided to pursue a career as an Operator because of the inspiring leaders who mentored me and the team that supported me during my time as a Team Member,” Severns expressed. “When I was selected to open my own Chick-fil-A in my hometown, just miles away from where I started my
Chick-fil-A journey, I saw it as an opportunity to give back to the community that had given so much to me. This is home for me, my wife Julie and our two kids, and it’s our hope for everyone to feel at home in our two restaurants.”
Since opening Chick-fil-A Lenexa in 2020, Severns has seen the community’s resilience and growth firsthand. With the upcoming opening of the area’s first drive-thru focused location, he looks forward to connecting with more families and individuals, offering another welcoming space for the community to enjoy delicious food.
“Alongside continuing to serve Guests at Chick-fil-A Lenexa, my team and I look forward bringing a little joy and comfort to their day with each visit to Chick-fil-A Shawnee Mission, no matter how they choose to dine with us,” Severns added.
Caring for the Shawnee Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve.
When Severns opened Chick-fil-A Lenexa, he created a vision for the restaurant to be a place where people are restored. That vision has guided his approach to caring for both Guests and Team Members. In collaboration with Down Syndrome Innovations, the restaurant launched the Flourish program, an eight-week paid internship experience designed to provide individuals with diverse abilities valuable work-based learning opportunities. To further support Down Syndrome Innovation, Severns nominated the organization for the Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Awards® program, leading to its selection as a finalist for a 2025 grant.
Passionate about recognizing and supporting nonprofit partners, last year, Chick-fil-A Lenexa nominated local organization Joy Meadows for a True Inspiration Awards grant – and Chick-fil-A, Inc. awarded $350,000 to the nonprofit to help further its efforts to support foster children and families across the greater Kansas City area.
To commemorate the opening of Chick-fil-A Shawnee Mission, Chick-fil-A, Inc. will donate donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of Harvesters, a Feeding America partner food bank.
In addition, Chick-fil-A Shawnee Mission is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Shawnee area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
