First Chick-fil-A drive-thru focused restaurant on O‘ahu to open on Thursday, July 27

Makiki restaurant brings approximately 150 full- and part-time jobs to community, honors 100 local health care heroes with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year

HONOLULU, Hawai‘i (July 20, 2023) – The first drive-thru focused Chick-fil-A® location on O‘ahu will open on Thursday, July 27, 2023, in Honolulu. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected O‘ahu-raised Zane Dydasco as the independent franchised Owner/Operator of Chick-fil-A Makiki. Located at 1056 S Beretania Street, Honolulu, HI, 96814, Chick-fil-A Makiki will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Our custom-designed restaurant

The restaurant’s custom design will feature Chick-fil-A’s trademark hospitality through a dual-lane drive-thru experience to serve guests from the convenience of their cars. The restaurant will also feature three walk-up windows for pedestrians, where guests will be greeted face-to-face by a Team Member to place their order for carry-out. As a drive-thru focused restaurant, Chick-fil-A Makiki will not provide dine-in services.

Guests of Chick-fil-A Makiki can download the Chick-fil-A® App and join the Chick-fil-A One® tiered membership program, where guests receive points on every qualifying purchase which can be used to redeem available rewards. Third-party delivery will be available in the near future.

Locally owned and operated

As full-time, hands-on leaders in their restaurants and communities, Chick-fil-A Owner/Operators proudly reside in the communities in which they serve.

In Honolulu, Dydasco will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 150 full- and part-time Team Members, serving guests and cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses.

Raised on O‘ahu, Dydasco grew up in Pālolo Valley just 10 minutes from the future location of Chick-fil-A Makiki and graduated from the Kamehameha Schools – Kapālama. He was first introduced to Chick-fil-A by one of his classmates from the United States Air Force Academy and was impressed by the company’s commitment to care and service to the community. After graduating, Dydasco went on to serve in the United States Air Force for nearly a decade and held several leadership positions that helped him cultivate the skills needed to guide his Team Members as the Operator of Chick-fil-A Makiki.

“From playing competitive soccer to serving in the United States Air Force, I’ve learned many invaluable lessons about teamwork, the importance of following your passion and the pursuit of excellence,” said Dydasco. “As the local Owner/Operator of Chick-fil-A Makiki, I am so grateful for the opportunity to now show care for our Team Members, guests and a community that means so much to me, my wife Jenna and our three daughters. I look forward to combining my passions for service and operational excellence by serving quality food with our signature hospitality to every guest that visits our restaurant.”

Caring for the community

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. will donate $25,000 to Hawai‘i Foodbank, a certified member of Feeding America, in honor of the new restaurant. The funds will support partners in the local community to aid in the fight against hunger.

In addition, Chick-fil-A Makiki is recognizing 100 local health care heroes making an impact in Honolulu by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year. “With family members in health care, I know how demanding the work can be to look after others, so I wanted to take a moment to recognize this hard-working community,” shared Dydasco.

Dydasco’s restaurant plans to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® Program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. When there is surplus food, Chick-fil-A Makiki will donate it to Aloha Harvest, a local nonprofit organization focused on eliminating hunger and food waste. To date, more than 20 million meals have been served nationwide from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations.

Our drive-thru experience

The locally owned and operated restaurant is focused on expediting and elevating the experience for guests with innovation, speed and hospitality through the drive-thru focused restaurant model. Some Chick-fil-A Makiki Team Members will serve guests at three walk-up windows, while others will welcome customers face-to-face in the drive-thru line to take each guest’s orders on a tablet. As the order-taker walks the line, another restaurant Team Member will come to the customer’s car to take payment, allowing vehicles to move through more quickly than they do at a traditional speaker box drive-thru. To ensure restaurant Team Members working in the drive-thru line are comfortable in warm weather, Chick-fil-A, Inc. partnered with clothing brands that design cooling vests and moisture-wicking uniforms.

Team member investment

Chick-fil-A Operators are committed to hiring, developing and retaining top talent and providing a positive work environment for people of all ages and backgrounds. Team Members have opportunities for flexible work hours and leadership growth, competitive pay and benefits, hands-on training, mentoring and the chance to apply for scholarships to support their continuing education. Since 1973, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has awarded more than $162 million in scholarships to more than 93,000 restaurant Team Members.

Quality ingredients, delicious food

Chick-fil-A restaurants focus on serving customers great-tasting food made with quality ingredients. The produce used in recipes is delivered to kitchens up to six times a week. Chick-fil-A restaurants serve chicken raised with No Antibiotics Ever, starting from the egg. By not allowing antibiotics of any kind, Chick-fil-A chicken meets the highest commitment for non-antibiotic use.

Guests of Chick-fil-A Makiki will be able to enjoy breakfast options like the iconic Chick-n-Minis® entrée, Chick-fil-A® Chicken Biscuits, Hash Brown Scramble Bowl and more from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., when the restaurant will then change over to its classic Chick-fil-A® Menu.
