The symbolism behind Brandon Brusenhan’s journey from Team Member to Owner-Operator

As a teenager, Brandon Brusenhan began working alongside his mother at his local Chick-fil-A® restaurant in Oklahoma, where his mother was a General Manager. During his many years at the restaurant, one day sticks out to Brandon in particular. The restaurant was hosting a Daddy Daughter Date Night and Brandon was told he would need to wear formal attire to serve as a waiter in the dining room. That day, his mother picked him up from school and took him shopping for some dress clothes before dropping him off at the restaurant.

When Brandon arrived at work, he realized he did not know how to tie a necktie and looked around the restaurant for help. Without hesitation, Bubba Cathy, Executive Vice President of Chick-fil-A, Inc., took him into his office and helped him properly tie his tie – a memory Brandon will never forget.

“That simple moment of kindness meant everything to me,” said Brandon. “As a young boy, having someone like Bubba Cathy intentionally take time from his day to grow and develop me, even with something as small as teaching me to tie a tie, was so impactful. Because of that care, I make it my personal mission to extend similar care to my Guests and Team Members every day.”

In fact, it was that exact moment when Brandon decided he wanted to become a Chick-fil-A Owner-Operator.

In 2023, Brandon‘s dream came true as he was selected to be the local Owner-Operator of Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City. When a Chick-fil-A Owner-Operator is selected, they get to ring a bell at the company’s Support Center in Atlanta. The morning of his bell ringing ceremony, Brandon found himself tying that same tie from when he was a teenager, this time, all by himself.

“It really felt like a full circle moment,” said Brandon. “I couldn’t be more grateful for my Chick-fil-A journey and each and every Operator who has played a role in mentoring and growing me. I can only hope that I can leave the same level of impact on young leaders at my own Chick-fil-A. It takes a village, and Chick-fil-A sure is a good one to have.”

Today, Brandon continues to embody the values instilled in him, striving to make a positive impact on his team and community. Viewing his business as a “leadership business,” Brandon sees his main job as helping his team achieve their life goals, whether that be with Chick-fil-A or elsewhere. Inspired by the kindness and mentorship shown to him, Brandon has embraced that caring, community mentality he witnessed firsthand when he was younger – and in doing so, has made his journey all the more worth it.
