Restaurant Brings Approximately 120 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year
OWENSBORO, Ky. (July 1, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Owensboro community on Friday, July 5, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Mark Whiteman as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Highway 54, marking his second restaurant in the community.
Located at 3123 Highway 54, Chick-fil-A Highway 54 will be open for dine-in, drive-thru and carry-out from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
The Chick-fil-A Highway 54 restaurant joins six other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the greater area.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Owensboro, Whiteman will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 120 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Owensboro community’s needs.
For the past 15 years, Whiteman has proudly served the Owensboro community as the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Frederica Street, formerly known as Chick-fil-A Owensboro. This location is just five miles away from his new restaurant, which he will continue to operate alongside his new restaurant. His wife Micah also served in the restaurant for several years after he became an Operator, further enriching their connection to Chick-fil-A and the community. Whiteman is looking forward to opening Chick-fil-A Highway 54, where he will continue his vision to become one of the area’s most caring companies.
“My journey at Chick-fil-A began as a Team Member at Chick-fil-A Charleston Town Center in West Virginia, where I quickly found a sense of community with my team. Even after moving away to college, Chick-fil-A remained a focal point in my life for fostering genuine connections - it’s where my wife and I worked together at our alma mater,” Whiteman reflected. “From my early days as a Team Member to now owning my own restaurants, my team has become my second family. Opening my second restaurant is an exciting opportunity to deepen our roots and make an even greater impact in the community we cherish.”
At Chick-fil-A Highway 54, Whiteman is excited to continue fostering connections with his Guests through community-driven initiatives like fundraisers for local schools, alongside family-friendly events like Daddy-Daughter and Mother-Son Date nights. He sees his restaurant not just as a place to dine, but also a home away from home. Whiteman’s commitment to both his team and the community underscores his vision of the restaurants being a center for care and connection for Owensboro.
Caring for the Owensboro Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to partners in the greater area to aid in the fight against hunger.
Alongside Chick-fil-A Frederica Street, the new restaurant will plan to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 25 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Chick-fil-A Highway 54 is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Owensboro area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.

Chick-fil-A was Whiteman’s first job. After a few years serving as a Team Member, Whiteman quickly excelled to a Team Leader position, becoming the first-ever recipient of the Chick-fil-A Remarkable Futures™ Scholarship at Chick-fil-A Charleston Town Center in West Virginia. Following in her father’s footsteps, Hannah, Whiteman’s daughter, was also awarded a Chick-fil-A Remarkable FuturesTM Scholarship in 2024 and will continue working alongside her father, sister and grandmother as a Team Leader at Chick-fil-A Highway 54. To date, Chick-fil-A has awarded over 191 million in scholarships to more than 105,000 Team Members across the country.
