Restaurant Brings Approximately 125 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 24, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Raleigh community on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Donovan Carless Jr. as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A New Bern Ave.

Located at 4411 New Bern Ave., Chick-fil-A New Bern Ave will be open for dine-in and carry-out from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The restaurant will also be open for drive-thru as well as Mobile Thru, a fully dedicated lane in the drive-thru where Guests can pick up orders placed ahead of time on the Chick-fil-A App®, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The Chick-fil-A New Bern Ave restaurant joins more than 57 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider Raleigh-Durham market.

Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.

In Raleigh, Carless will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 125 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Raleigh community’s needs.

A Raleigh native, Carless began his journey with Chick-fil-A in 1993 as a Team Member serving at Chick-fil-A Cary Town Center Mall. After a decade, he joined the Chick-fil-A® Leadership Development Program, where he served as an Interim Manager in Raleigh. This role allowed him to further hone his leadership skills and learn the ins and outs of the business. In 2004, he was selected to become the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Metrocenter Mall in Jackson, Mississippi, and in 2007, he relocated to serve as the Operator of Chick-fil-A Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights, Virginia. After 11 years away from home, he was presented with the opportunity to return home to Raleigh, where he has served for nine years as the Operator of Chick-fil-A Triangle Town Center, located just six miles away from his new restaurant.

Not only was Chick-fil-A his first and only job, but it’s also where he met his wife, Nikki, who will be serving as the restaurant’s Human Resources Director. Alongside their parents, Carless’ three eldest children, Christian, Destiny and Trey, will serve as Team Members with special appearances from their youngest sibling, five-year-old Cameron, who is already eager to learn the family business. As Carless opens Chick-fil-A New Bern Ave, he is most looking forward to investing in his Team Members by being a positive influence and providing the same personal and professional development opportunities that he is so grateful to have experienced.

“I am really blessed to continue my journey with Chick-fil-A, especially in my hometown,” said Carless. “Owning and running my own restaurant has become an instrument for me to mentor the youth in our community. I am excited about the potential of my team and can’t wait to offer them opportunities like those that have shaped mine and my family’s careers.”

Caring for the Raleigh Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts in the Raleigh area. The funds will be distributed between Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, two Feeding America partner food banks, in honor of the new restaurant.

Carless’ restaurant will plan to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 25 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In addition, Chick-fil-A New Bern Ave is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Raleigh area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.

Team Member Investment
Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators strive to hire, develop and retain top talent, helping future leaders optimize their skills and providing pathways for personal and professional development in a welcoming, purpose-driven environment. A career at Chick-fil-A offers a wide range of benefits, including hands-on training and mentoring, competitive pay and benefits, the chance to apply for scholarships to support continued education, and the flexibility to thrive in and outside of work. Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are committed to preparing their team for the future, wherever it may lead. To learn more about careers at Chick-fil-A, click here
