Restaurant Brings Approximately 100 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Aug. 29, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Chapel Hill community on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Nate MacDonald as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Chapel Hill University Place.

Located at 241 South Estes Drive, Chick-fil-A Chapel Hill University Place will be open for dine-in, drive-thru, carry-out, delivery, catering and Mobile Thru from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The Chapel Hill University Place restaurant joins more than 55 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider Raleigh-Durham market.

Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.

In Chapel Hill, MacDonald will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing more than 100 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Chapel Hill community’s needs. Additionally, more than 125 Team Members from Macdonald’s other restaurant, Chick-fil-A Renaissance Village, which closed for a remodel this summer and is slated to reopen in late 2024, will be temporarily relocating during the remodel to serve Guests at Chick-fil-A Chapel Hill University Place.

MacDonald first learned about Chick-fil-A through his girlfriend, now wife, who worked at multiple Chick-fil-A restaurants in Raleigh after the two graduated from college. Inspired by Chick-fil-A’s welcoming environment and local Owner-Operator Chris Latta’s care for his Team Members and Guests, MacDonald joined Latta’s operations team. Shortly after, he decided to pursue a local Owner-Operator opportunity and, in 2012, he was selected as the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Surfside in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. After nine years in Myrtle Beach, MacDonald returned closer to home and became the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Renaissance Village in South Durham, which he will continue to operate in addition to the new restaurant.

MacDonald has lived in the Triangle area since he was seven years old. Now, he’s excited to serve more Guests in a community close to his heart and provide additional opportunities for Team Members through the new restaurant.

"I am truly humbled by the opportunity to continue serving our Guests in the Triangle area in a greater capacity," MacDonald said. "Serving the community is a cause I’m passionate about, and my hope for this new restaurant is to make Guests and Team Members feel cared for in a personal way.”

Caring for the Chapel Hill Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, a Feeding America partner food bank, in honor of the new restaurant.

MacDonald’s restaurant will plan to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 25 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In addition, Chick-fil-A Chapel Hill University Place is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Chapel Hill area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.

Team Member Investment
Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators strive to hire, develop and retain top talent, helping future leaders optimize their skills and providing pathways for personal and professional development in a welcoming, purpose-driven environment. A career at Chick-fil-A offers a wide range of benefits, including hands-on training and mentoring, competitive pay and benefits, the chance to apply for scholarships to support continued education, and the flexibility to thrive in and outside of work.
