Restaurant Brings Approximately 100 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 29, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Jacksonville community on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Eric Gillis as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A South Mandarin.
Located at 11709 San Jose Blvd., Chick-fil-A South Mandarin will be open for dine-in and carry-out from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00pm, Monday through Saturday, and the drive-thru will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The Jacksonville restaurant joins 28 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider Jacksonville market.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Jacksonville, Gillis will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 100 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Jacksonville community’s needs.
Gillis’ roots in the Mandarin community run deep. After moving to Mandarin with his family in 1989 and spending most of his childhood there, in 2006, he started as a Team Member at Chick-fil-A St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville. It was this role as a part-time Team Member that ignited his dream of becoming a local Owner-Operator. After years of dedication, Gillis’ dream became a reality in 2011 when he was selected as the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Parkway Place Mall in Huntsville, Alabama.
His journey came full circle in 2015 when he was given the opportunity to return to his hometown and open Chick-fil-A Mandarin, which he will continue to operate alongside this new restaurant. Since opening Chick-fil-A Mandarin, Team Members at Gillis’ restaurant have received more than $400,000 through the Chick-fil-A Remarkable Futures™ Scholarship to support their educational pursuits.
Gillis is excited to deepen his service to this community with the opening of Chick-fil-A South Mandarin, alongside his wife, Naomi, and their five children.
“I am incredibly grateful for another opportunity to serve the Mandarin community, a place I’ve been fortunate to call home for most of my life,” said Gillis. “Watching our Team Members grow, both personally and professionally, is the most rewarding part of my job. Our team looks forward to continuing to make a positive impact on our Guests at Chick-fil-A South Mandarin.”
Caring for the Jacksonville Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.
Each year, Chick-fil-A provides grants to nonprofit organizations across North America, including Puerto Rico and Canada, through the True Inspiration Awards® program. Since 2023, Chick-fil-A has granted $400,000 to nonprofits in the Jacksonville area to support the needs of their local communities.
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of Feeding Northeast Florida, a Feeding America partner food bank and a 2023 recipient of the True Inspiration Award, in honor of the new restaurant.
Gillis’ restaurant will plan to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 25 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Chick-fil-A South Mandarin is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Jacksonville area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
