Restaurant Brings Approximately 120 Full- and Part-Time Jobs to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year
DULUTH, Minn. (Nov. 7, 2024) – The first Chick-fil-A® restaurant in Duluth will begin serving the community on Thursday, Nov. 14. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Jon Farr as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Duluth.
Located on the North side of Miller Hill Mall at 1530 Miller Trunk Hwy, Chick-fil-A Duluth will be open for dine-in, drive-thru, carry-out and Mobile Thru from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In Duluth, Farr will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 120 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Duluth community’s needs.
Born in Texas and raised in Alaska, Farr’s passion for Chick-fil-A ignited in Virginia while earning his bachelor’s degree in business management with a focus in marketing analytics. During his first
Chick-fil-A meal, he was impressed by the restaurant company’s genuine hospitality and delicious food.
With a love of food and serving others, Farr had held posts in a bakery, grocery store and restaurant. While considering starting a food truck business, he met a local Chick-fil-A Owner-Operator at a career fair and was inspired to join the company.
After graduation, Farr and his wife Emily moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he began working at a local Chick-fil-A, setting his sights on becoming a local Owner-Operator. After serving as a Team Member for several years, Farr joined the Chick-fil-A® Leadership Development Program, where he supported restaurant openings across the U.S. While serving at the Chick-fil-A restaurant opening in Woodbury, Minnesota, Farr fell in love with the area, which reminded him of his Alaksa upbringing surrounded by nature.
After exiting the Leadership Development Program, he moved to Minnesota to serve as the Executive Director at a Chick-fil-A in Knollwood before being selected as the local Owner-Operator of
Chick-fil-A Duluth. Today, he looks forward to supporting the community’s development through partnerships with local nonprofits and sports organizations. When not serving Guests and the community, Farr enjoys fishing, hiking and hosting family gatherings.
“Becoming a local Owner-Operator with Chick-fil-A has been my dream for the last eight years and it is an honor to open the first restaurant in Duluth. I feel eternally grateful that my journey from a
Chick-fil-A Team Member to Owner-Operator led me to Duluth, a place that I now proudly call home with my wife and four children,” said Farr. “My family is so excited to live in this great city while serving our neighbors. I look forward to carrying out the Chick-fil-A legacy to care for our Team Members Guests, and the community."
Caring for the Duluth Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to Second Harvest Northland, a Feeding America partner food bank, in honor of the new restaurant.
Farr’s restaurant is participating in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 30 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,200 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Chick-fil-A Duluth is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Duluth area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
Team Member Investment
Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators strive to hire, develop and retain top talent, helping future leaders optimize their skills and providing pathways for personal and professional development in a welcoming, purpose-driven environment. A career at Chick-fil-A offers a wide range of benefits, including hands-on training and mentoring, competitive pay and benefits, the chance to apply for scholarships to support continued education, and the flexibility to thrive in and outside of work.
