The West Haven restaurant joins 14 other Chick-fil-A restaurants in the state of Connecticut.
Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.
In West Haven, Marquez will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 100 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the West Haven community’s needs.
Marquez was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and raised in North Georgia, where he was introduced to Chick-fil-A’s unique culture of care at a young age. Summers and holidays with family in Connecticut were also a large part of his childhood experience. After many visits to Chick-fil-A throughout his childhood, Marquez knew Chick-fil-A would be a great fit for his first job. At age 17, he began serving as a Team Member at his hometown restaurant before going on to study business administration at the University of North Georgia. His academic studies inspired a newfound appreciation for entrepreneurship, and Marquez quickly set his sights on becoming a Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operator, excited by the opportunity to introduce the company’s signature hospitality to new communities and make a positive impact. After graduation, Marquez was accepted into the Chick-fil-A® Leadership Development Program, which gives future leaders the chance to learn alongside Operators around the U.S. and Canada. Today, after more than 13 years with the company, Marquez is thrilled to return to Connecticut with his wife, Julianna, whom he met while working at Chick-fil-A, and foster close connections within the West Haven community.
“This is such an incredible moment for me, returning to my home state, while also getting the opportunity to open the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in West Haven,” Marquez said. “Reflecting on my early days as a Team Member, it feels surreal to be stepping into the role of local Owner-Operator, a position I’ve admired and aspired to reach for years. I cannot wait to introduce Chick-fil-A to my new neighbors in West Haven – offering meaningful dining experiences, cultivating strong career opportunities and, as always, leading with our signature hospitality.”
Caring for the West Haven Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of Connecticut Foodshare, a Feeding America partner food bank, in honor of the new restaurant.
Marquez’s restaurant will participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 30 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,200 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Chick-fil-A West Haven is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the West Haven area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
